This website describes a unique South African packaging and printing company. Founded in the uncertain times of 1913 and the "great strike", Alex White Holdings has weathered many storms, yet has prospered throughout.
The growth from letterpress printing to our current broad base of operating divisions has been guided by our founding principles:
v an entrepreneurial spirit;
v a solid asset base;
v conservative financing, yet
v a commitment to continuous technological improvement.
Our stock exchange listing in 1987 placed us on a sound footing to further transform our Group. Several major investments have been completed since then and a number of important acquisitions have been made.
All divisions are strategically well placed for the opportunities of the new millennium and are protected where possible by unique machinery and technology, or international licences and alliances. Our customer base is broad, without excessive reliance on a few large customers, and close client contact alerts us to changing market needs.
Our people remain our most important asset. Each division is run on a small company basis, allowing maximum devolution of responsibility, but countered by strict reporting and resource management requirements. Staff training is receiving attention and is typified by our high level support to the training of apprentices as well as involvement in the South African Printing College.
Alex White Holdings is still developing, taking technological complexity in its stride. We are confident that our past achievements will project forward into steady progress and meaningful rewards for all our stakeholders
